Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahir Hammond has filed another petition to the National Vetting Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), seeking the disqualification of all three opponents in the party’s parliamentary primaries.
On January 2, 2024, the Adansi Asokwa MP petitioned the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee to disqualify his main opponent in the primary, Sammy Binfoh Darkwa.
After hours of deliberation on the matter, the vetting committee threw out the petition and cleared both aspirants to begin their campaign for the primary.
Unsatisfied with the outcome, K.T. Hammond has taken his petition to the National Vetting Committee to disqualify all his opponents.
In the petition sighted by JoyNews, K.T Hammond said he is disgruntled by the decision of the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee, led by the NPP National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye and the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako.
K.T Hammond says his opponents, including the Managing Director of the Ghana Publishing Company, Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, are not eligible to contest the parliamentary primaries in line with Article 12(4) and (7) of the party’s constitution.
He is seeking the National Vetting Committee to disqualify his opponents on the basis of the allegations he has leveled against them.
He accused his opponents of not belonging to the NPP and contributing less to the constituency’s progress.
Meanwhile, the campaign ahead of the January 27 primaries has been intensified as aspirants engage delegates prior to the election.
