The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East, Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, has emerged victorious in the parliamentary primary ahead of the 2024 elections.
If successful in the December parliamentary elections, Mr. Ameyaw-Cheremeh, who also serves as the Board Chairman of the Bui Power Authority, will represent his constituents in Parliament for the fifth consecutive term.
The Sunyani East constituency faced internal challenges that prevented its participation in the NPP’s parliamentary primaries held on Saturday, January 27.
However, following resolutions by the national leadership of the Party, the primary was rescheduled for March 9.
In a closely contested election supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr. Ameyaw-Cheremeh secured victory with 460 out of the 799 valid votes cast.
His sole competitor, Ambassador George Kumi, a former envoy, was defeated in the contest.
