Kwadwo Kyei Amanin, the 31-year-old hoaxer who feigned his own disappearance while hiding in his girlfriend's house at Asawinso, has publicly pleaded for forgiveness from his family and fellow Ghanaians as he appeared before the Bibiani Circuit Court.
On May 11, 2024, Adom News reporter, Augustine Boah reported that Kwadwo Amanin, said to be a gold dealer, had gone missing, causing significant distress to his family.
The incident was reported to the Awaso police but after several days, he was found in Bibiani and subsequently handed over to the Awaso police.
Amanin was charged with causing fear and panic when he appeared before His Honour Joshua Caleb Abaidoo.
He pleaded guilty but asked for mercy. The court fined him 50 penalty units, equivalent to GH₵600, or a three-month prison sentence.
Amanin managed to pay the fine and was placed on a two-year good behaviour bond, with a six-month prison term with hard labour if breached the bond.
Amanin later apologised to his family and the public in an interview with Adom News. “I plead with all Ghanaians and the media to forgive me for what happened. It wasn’t my intention to do such a thing. I don’t know what came over me. I also plead to my mom and dad to forgive me," he stated.
His father, Opanin Kwame Amanin, also expressed regret over his son's actions and pleaded for public forgiveness. "The people of Asawinso suffered while searching for my son. Some ventured into the forest looking for him. A policeman in Asawinso eventually found and brought him home. My son has tarnished the name of Asawinso, and I plead on his behalf. He is not irresponsible. It is due to unforeseen issues and situations that this has occurred. Please forgive him," he implored.
