President Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing public-private partnerships in Ghana, stressing the crucial role these enterprises play in national development.
Speaking at Kwahu-Nkwatia in the Eastern Region during a dinner and awards ceremony organised by the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) for its 5th anniversary, the President praised the contributions of state institutions over the past few years.
The President highlighted the government's efforts to reform and improve the oversight of state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
He stated, "It is this spirit of recognition and appreciation that brings us together to celebrate excellence. It is through such dedication that our beloved Ghana will continue to thrive."
He commended the Public Enterprises League Table (PELT) and Awards, an initiative led by Honorable Joseph Cudjoe, Minister for Public Enterprises, and supported by SIGA. This initiative systematically evaluates the performance of specified entities, fostering competition and accountability.
“I commend Honorable Joseph Cudjoe for his foresight and leadership in establishing this valuable initiative,” said President Akufo-Addo. “This event marks the third edition of the PELT awards since its inception in 2020 and will be my final PELT awards ceremony as President.”
The President congratulated the award winners and encouraged those still working towards recognition to stay focused. He noted, “These awards do more than recognize success; they help build a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement across our public enterprises.”
He concluded by emphasising the importance of these entities in Ghana's economic development and in achieving the 'Ghana Beyond Aid' vision.
“These institutions were established to promote self-reliance, reduce dependence on foreign imports, and position Ghana as a competitive global partner. When they succeed, they improve the standard of living for all Ghanaians by creating jobs, providing quality services, and producing goods that meet global standards.”
