Awerco Construction Limited, contractors for the Weija Paediatric Hospital, has handed over the 130-bed facility to the Ministry of Health, paving the way for its commissioning and eventual operationalisation.
The handover ceremony, monitored by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), took place on August 7, 2026, at the Conference Room of the Weija Paediatric Hospital.
According to EOCO, the handover follows a series of engagements facilitated by the Office, which resulted in an agreement for the facility to be transferred to the Ministry of Health to enable healthcare services to commence.
EOCO said the development represents “a significant step towards the commissioning and operationalisation of the facility”, which will provide children and families with access to specialised paediatric healthcare services.
However, the Office stressed that its investigations into allegations of procurement breaches, financial impropriety and other related matters concerning the project remain ongoing.
“The handing over and subsequent operationalisation of the hospital do not in anyway affect or prejudice the investigations currently being conducted by EOCO,” the statement said.
EOCO commended the Ministry of Health and Awerco Construction Limited for “demonstrating commitment to the national interest” and complying with the terms of the agreement reached through the facilitated engagements.
The Office further assured the public that it remains committed to “safeguarding public resources, promoting accountability and ensuring that public infrastructure projects deliver their intended benefits to the people of Ghana.”
