The Director of Training and PTA of the Ghana Armed Forces, Colonel Richard Akoto, says he is focused on raising a competitive team for the upcoming Africa Military Games.
The 2024 edition of the games is scheduled to take place in Abuja, Nigeria, between November 18 and 30.
As part of preparations for the competition, there was the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) games last weekend to select athletes.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Colonel Akoto highlighted the importance of the games.
"For the Armed Forces, the ultimate goal is to build a strong, competitive team that will represent Ghana at the All-African Military Games," he stated.
"We hope that by the time we finish this championship, our team will be ready to compete and make Ghana proud."
Colonel Akoto sees this championship as an important step toward preparing for a major international competition. He noted that the All-African Military Games were last held in the 1770s, making this a rare opportunity for African militaries to unite in sports.
He added, "We think this platform will allow our athletes to showcase their talents and bring pride to Ghana."
