President-elect John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his determination to introduce stringent reforms to revitalise the nation’s economy and governance.
Speaking after his official declaration as the winner of Ghana’s December 7 general elections, Mahama emphasised the need for bold and decisive measures to restore the country’s status as the beacon of Africa.
The President-elect highlighted that these reforms would be a cornerstone of his administration over the next four years.
“In the coming four years, we shall implement crucial governance reforms, which will at times involve severe measures, to reset our nation and reclaim its position as the Black Star of Africa,” Mahama stated during his victory address on Monday, 9 December.
The Electoral Commission (EC) confirmed Mahama’s triumph, announcing that he secured 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of valid votes.
His closest contender, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 4,657,304 votes, equivalent to 41.61%.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) also made significant gains in Parliament, claiming over 160 seats, including several constituencies previously dominated by the NPP.
This parliamentary majority bolsters Mahama’s mandate as he prepares to lead Ghana once more, with a focus on unity, progress, and transformational leadership.
