Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has criticised Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei for denying allegations of bribery in the vetting of ministerial nominees.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr Kpebu commended former MP for Bekwai, Joe Osei-Owusu, also known as Joe Wise, for at least acknowledging that MPs on the Appointments Committee receive money though he argued it does not constitute bribery or corruption.
Kpebu however, disagreed with Patricia Appiagyei’s recent comments on PM Express on JoyNews, where she refuted claims of bribery in the vetting of ministerial nominees.
“What Patricia Appiagyei did is a great disservice to Ghana, and I think her attention should be drawn to it,” Mr Kpebu stated. “She should apologise to us. She shouldn’t treat us like we don’t know anything and she is the only proper Ghanaian.”
He stressed that bribery in Parliament is a long-standing issue, adding that he had heard about it as far back as 20 years ago.
“For an MP of her stature to deny these things means she herself has questions to answer. There are great issues of integrity at stake. If she doesn’t know, she should just say so. But to outrightly deny that it doesn't happen is a different matter altogether,” he argued.
Mr Kpebu called on Patricia Appiagyei to reconsider her position, insisting that her comments disrespected the Ghanaian public.
