In a remarkable eight-year tenure, David Asante, the former Managing Director of Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL), has left an indelible mark on the company's history.
David Asante's leadership, which came to an end with a brief handover ceremony to Nana Kwasi Boatey, the new Managing Director, was marked by numerous achievements that transformed GPCL into a thriving entity.
David Asante's journey at GPCL began in 2017 when he was appointed by then-President Nana Akufo-Addo to lead the company.
At the time, GPCL was facing significant challenges, including a low public image, poor patronage of products and services, and a deteriorating state of buildings and machinery.
Undaunted by these challenges, David Asante set out to turn things around, leveraging his expertise to drive growth and innovation.
One of Asante's notable achievements was the establishment of an IT Department, which enabled GPCL to stay abreast of technological advancements and improve its operational efficiency.
He also introduced a Call Centre and Delivery Service, enhancing customer engagement and satisfaction.
Furthermore, David Asante forged a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
David Asante's commitment to modernizing GPCL's infrastructure was evident in the acquisition of state-of-the-art machines and logistics, including a five-color Heidelberg Speedmaster printing machine, two two-color Heidelberg Speedmaster printing machines, and several other industrial-grade equipment.
These investments significantly enhanced GPCL's printing capabilities, enabling the company to deliver high-quality products and services.
In addition to these achievements, David Asante introduced several innovative services, including the Premium Gazette Service, Paperless Gazette Application Service, and Electronic Gazette Application System (e-Gazette).
He also re-established the Marketing Unit, established a new Printing Unit, and renovated the Production Line.
The GPCL Ashanti Regional Branch was another notable addition, expanding the company's reach and presence.
David Asante's leadership was recognized and praised by various stakeholders, including the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), which commended him for transforming GPCL into a profitable and competitive entity.
However, as David Asante hands over the reins to his successor, his legacy at GPCL is undeniable.
His tireless efforts to modernize, innovate, and grow the company have left a lasting impact, positioning GPCL for continued success in the years to come.
