President John Dramani Mahama has appointed security and safety analyst, Dr Adam Bonaa, as the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA).
Dr Bonaa, a renowned security analyst in Ghana, is widely recognised for his deep insights into security, conflict resolution, and immigration.
He holds a doctorate with a specialisation in security and immigration, equipping him with a comprehensive understanding of how these fields intersect with national and international peace-building efforts.
With over two decades of experience in counter-terrorism, defence, intelligence, and international relations, Dr Bonaa has been a vocal advocate for a more localised approach to conflict resolution.
His critiques on security matters, often shared through various media platforms, have made him a respected figure in discussions on Ghana's security challenges.
The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons is a state agency under the Ministry of the Interior, mandated to prevent, combat, and eradicate the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in Ghana.
The Commission's vision is to foster peace and security through the effective control of small arms and related materials. Its primary objectives include promoting public safety and security, advocating for a society free from gun violence, enhancing the capacity of security agencies, and ensuring compliance with international protocols concerning small arms.
In his new role, Dr Bonaa will lead NACSA's initiatives to curb the illicit trade in arms, conduct public education on the dangers of small arms, and advise the Minister for the Interior on policy formulation.
His expertise in security and immigration is expected to play a critical role in addressing arms proliferation, particularly in relation to cross-border movements.
