The body of a 10-year-old boy, Nurudeen Abubakar was on Thursday morning, February 19, uncovered in a salt pit after he allegedly went fishing at a salt-winning site at Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
Nurudeen did not go home after school on Wednesday only for his limp body to be discovered Thursday morning floating on the lake used for salt production.

Assemblyman for Upper Nyanyano Electoral Area, Isaac Quansah, told Adom News’ Seth Kofi Agyei in an interview that he received a call about the grim discovery and followed up to the scene.
He said upon confirming the incident, he proceeded to the police station to lodge a complaint, whereupon he met a couple also lodging a missing person complaint. They happened to be Nurudeen’s parents.
Together with the police, they went to the site to retrieve the body which has since been deposited at the Mother & Child Hospital at Nyanyano while a police investigation is underway.

The assemblyman recommended the immediate fencing of the site to prevent children from further intrusion.
He ruled out covering the lake, saying it is not a practical solution in the immediate as the salt winners need the water and sunshine for crystallisation.
Isaac Quansah also counselled parents to ensure their wards are in school during school hours or are in good care to prevent search incidents.
