Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central Constituency, Patrick Boamah, has urged the Black Stars to step up their performance following a drop in FIFA rankings.
Ghana secured two consecutive victories in their FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifying matches, defeating Chad 5-0 and Madagascar 3-0.
However, the Black Stars failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco, finishing last in Group F with just three points.
As a result, Ghana dropped to 77th place in the latest FIFA rankings.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Boamah emphasized the need for the national team to improve in future matches.
“The Black Stars are ranked about 75 [77] on the FIFA ranking, and that is not where we all are supposed to be,” he said.
“If you look at and know where we, as a country, want our national team to be, we want our national team to be at the level that took us to the last eight in 2010.
“That is where we want our national team to be. We encourage them to play better and to be at the level that will gladden the hearts of Ghanaians.”
“Madagascar, Mr. Speaker, is ranked 116 out of 210, Chad 176,” he added.
Ghana is set to take part in a 4-nation tournament in June as part of preparations for the final four World Cup qualifiers.
