The Western Regional Manager of the Ghana Forestry Commission, Nana Kwabena Bosompim, has revealed that two other illegal mining settlements have been discovered as part of an ongoing operation to combat illegal mining in the region.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Wednesday, April 16, he stated that these settlements will be raided, following the same approach used in the recent raid of the Abrewa Ne Nkra settlement in the Takoradi forest district.
"So far, we have credible information that there are two other settlements, separate from the one we destroyed," he said.
The two settlements identified are known as Jerusalem and Wasa Nkra. Nana Bosompim explained, "We have not yet visited these areas, but when we do, we will assess the situation."
He further noted that many of the illegal miners residing in these settlements are from neighbouring countries, as well as other parts of Ghana, all of whom are engaged in illegal mining activities and other organised crimes.
