Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to former U.S. President Donald Trump on African affairs, has reaffirmed that the American position on Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara is “clear and unequivocal.”
In an exclusive interview with Medi1 TV and Radio, Boulos emphasised that the U.S. has consistently backed Morocco’s autonomy plan as the only viable solution to the regional dispute.
“The American position is clear and unequivocal,” Boulos said. “
This has been expressed repeatedly and clearly, most recently by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"It is the same position conveyed by President Donald Trump to His Majesty King Mohammed VI when the United States officially recognised Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.”
Boulos dismissed any conflicting reports, calling them “erroneous and baseless speculation.”
He insisted that “no statement should be taken out of context or misinterpreted outside its clear meaning.”
He stressed that the U.S. continues to stand by the 2020 proclamation issued under President Trump’s administration, which recognised Moroccan sovereignty and endorsed the autonomy initiative as “serious, credible, and realistic.”
“As Secretary Rubio stated, we fully support the Moroccan autonomy proposal as a fair and definitive solution to this conflict,” Boulos concluded.
