President John Dramani Mahama has issued a strong warning to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) against the misappropriation of public funds, particularly the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).
Addressing MMDCEs at an orientation and training programme in Accra on Wednesday, 18 June, President Mahama stated that 80 per cent of the DACF would be disbursed directly to assemblies to undertake local development projects.
He stressed that these funds must be used prudently and in alignment with national priorities. “Let me make this very clear: if any of you mismanage these funds and are found culpable, do not expect me to intervene on your behalf,” the President cautioned.
He underscored his administration’s commitment to decentralisation as a vehicle for grassroots development and accountability. The President charged the MMDCEs to lead with integrity, prioritise essential projects in their communities, and ensure transparency in all financial dealings.
“As part of your responsibilities, sanitation must receive special attention. Your performance will be judged not just by what you spend, but by the visible impact in your communities,” he added.
President Mahama’s warning forms part of a broader push to instil fiscal discipline, strengthen local governance, and enhance public trust in the country’s decentralised development agenda.
