President John Mahama has reflected on the lives of the eight state officials who died in the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash, saying they never expected their journey that day would become their final one.

Speaking at the national interfaith memorial service held in Accra to mark one year since the tragedy, President Mahama said the eight men boarded the helicopter with the intention of carrying out their national duties.

The President noted that the victims came from different backgrounds and had different dreams, but were united by a shared commitment to serve the country.

"They came from diverse backgrounds, diverse professions; they had different dreams, different personalities and different stories and yet they were united by one common purpose: they answered the call to serve God and country. None of them boarded that helicopter expecting it would be their final journey," he said.

He paid tribute to their dedication and sacrifice, describing their death as a painful loss to their families, colleagues and the nation.

The August 6, 2025 crash claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane-Boamah, former Agriculture Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and six others, including three Ghana Air Force crew members, while they were travelling to the Ashanti Region in connection with efforts to fight illegal mining.
