A 45-year-old woman has drowned in an abandoned galamsey pit at Anyaaso in the Bosomefreho District of the Ashanti Region.
The incident is believed to have occurred four days prior to the discovery of the body, which was found in a decomposed state, partially submerged in mud.
The discovery has sparked fear and distress among residents and commuters, with many calling on authorities to secure abandoned mining sites that have become death traps in the area.
The body has been retrieved and buried due to its decomposed state.
Residents are demanding swift action from authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and prevent similar tragedies in the future by safely securing abandoned mining sites.
