The Minister for Defence, Dr Omane Boamah, has rewarded Lance Corporal Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu, the young Ghanaian soldier who was recently honoured and promoted by the Ghana Armed Forces for his patriotic act of rejecting a bribe to permit illegal mining at the Bibiani Gold Mines.
At an all-ranks durbar held for officers, soldiers and defence civilian staff of Garrisons 1 & 5 at the Burma Camp, on Wednesday 16th July, 2025, Dr Omane Boamah made a personal donation of ten thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc 10,000.00) to the L/Cpl Teye-Tsu to help promote professionalism in the Armed Forces.
He lauded L/Cpl Teye-Tsu, commended the troops for their bravery, professionalism and commitment and also reminded them to continue honouring their code.
He urged the leadership of the Forces to deal ruthlessly with soldiers who deviate from the professionalism expected of the Ghana Armed Forces.

While decrying the shooting of the two soldiers in Bawku, he seized the opportunity to also caution soldiers who clandestinely provide guard duties for unauthorised persons and urged the military High Command to deal with the illegal phenomenon.
“Government seeks to enhance operational capacity, improve troop welfare, and explore strategic partnership and global collaborations”, he noted, and added that the barracks would be upgraded with 10,000 new housing units as well as equipment and logistics.
On Friday, 11th July 2025, then Private Teye-Tsu, who is presently with the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces, was promoted with immediate effect to the rank of Lance Corporal by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lieutenant General William Agyapong.

As part of the reward package, he was presented with a beautifully worded citation and nominated to serve with the United Nations’ Interim Force in Lebanon.
This followed a similar award that was earlier given to him by Ojeyz Securities Limited, the private company providing security at the Bibiani Gold Mines, the duty post where L/Cpl Teye-Tsu was stationed last year.
It would be recalled that L/Cpl Teye-Tsu was on an official guard duty at the Bibiani Gold Mines late last year when he encountered a group of artisanal miners who attempted to bribe him with a huge amount of money to grant them access to their galamsey pits.
Driven by his patriotic instincts, he not only rejected the offer but he swiftly apprehended and handed the illegal miners over to the authorities for prosecution.

Impressed by the selfless and patriotic act, the management of Ojeyz Security Limited honoured him as a shining star, a gesture that would subsequently trigger a similar honour by the Ghana Armed Forces.
Aged 30 years, L/Cpl. Teye-Tsu, who was enlisted into the Forces in 2023, is a native of Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region and a product of the Manya Krobo Senior High School and the King David College, both located in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern region.
He is also a member of the Krobo-based youth Network, Kloma Gbi (Voice of the Krobo States).
