The final contest of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) was nothing short of thrilling as St Mary’s Senior High School returned to the stage for yet another battle, this time against Labone Senior High School and Accra Girls Senior High School.

In the opening round, the competition was fierce, with each school attempting to gain an early advantage.

Labone SHS emerged as the early leader with 24 points, closely followed by Accra Girls SHS with 23 points, while St Mary’s SHS trailed behind with 18 points.

The second round brought even more intensity.

Accra Girls rang in first and answered correctly, setting the tone.

St Mary’s followed with a correct answer, and Labone maintained their momentum with another accurate response.

As the round progressed, all three schools had their moments, both right and wrong, but at the end, Labone SHS still led with 33 points.

Accra Girls SHS followed with 29 points, and St Mary’s SHS had climbed to 24 points.

Then came round three, and St Mary’s SHS rose to the occasion.

Making no mistakes throughout the round, they steadily closed the gap.

Their competitors, meanwhile, faltered slightly.

By the end of the round, Labone SHS was still ahead with 46 points, but St Mary’s had surged into second place with 40 points, narrowly edging out Accra Girls SHS, who ended the round with 39 points.

The much-anticipated riddles round was the decider, and the stakes had never been higher.

With two schools already crossing the 40-point mark, history was poised to be made if the third school could simply answer one riddle correctly.

And history was indeed made. Each school successfully answered one riddle and missed one, adding just enough to their final scores.

Labone SHS emerged victorious, but it was a day of triumph for all three schools.

St Mary’s SHS and Accra Girls SHS, despite not winning the contest, secured their spots at the national championship, a testament to their resilience and brilliance throughout the competition.

It was a contest marked by fierce competition, moments of suspense, and ultimately, collective glory.
