Oyoko Methodist Senior High School have secured their place at the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) National Championship after producing a commanding performance in Contest 10 of the Eastern Regional qualifiers.
The Koforidua-based school held their nerve in a highly competitive contest to finish top with 43 points, sealing qualification ahead of Presby SHTS, Adukrom, who ended the contest with 33 points.
Kwahu Tafo SHS finished fourth with four points in a difficult outing.
Although their National Championship dream came to an end, St. Paul’s SHS, Asakraka had a moment to celebrate after emerging winners of the GOIL Riddle Bonanza. The school successfully solved three out of the four riddles to claim the GH¢400 prize.
For Oyoko Methodist SHS, the victory adds to their growing NSMQ pedigree, as they once again demonstrated their ability to rise under pressure and secure a place among Ghana’s elite science and mathematics schools.
The National Science and Maths Quiz remains one of the country's most anticipated academic competitions, drawing participation from senior high schools across all sixteen regions. The national championship, scheduled for later this year, will bring together the best-performing schools from the regional qualifiers to compete for the ultimate crown.
With their place now confirmed, Oyoko Methodist SHS will turn their attention to preparing for the national stage, where they will face stiff competition from some of Ghana's most formidable science and mathematics institutions.
The Eastern Regional qualifiers continue with other contests, as remaining schools battle for the few slots available to represent the region at the national level.
