The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South in the Eastern Region, Michael Okyere Baafi, has revealed that he once operated under two different names to protect his corporate career while pursuing his political ambitions.
Speaking on JoyPrime on Wednesday, Mr Okyere Baafi explained that before the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won power in 2016, he was cautious not to jeopardise his professional standing in the corporate world.
As a result, he adopted the name Kofi Baafi for his political activities, while maintaining his real name, Michael Okyere Baafi, in his corporate engagements.
"I was in cooperate and I was doing part-time politics, I was the director of marketing so I was the face of the business, so people should not know I was also doing politics, so I used two names, I was the only person who was doing politics then and I was using two names, I was using two names in politics," he said.
Adding that "So when you go to Nana Akufo-Addo's office then at Osu or his house, or anywhere politically, they know me as Kofi Baafi."
He said the former president didn't know his real name until his appointment, "Nana Akufo-Addo has never call me Micheal, he got to know I was Micheal when I was been sworn-in. He called me Kofi Baafi, everybody in politics call me Kofi Baafi."
He noted that this dual identity helped him to balance his responsibilities as a corporate executive and his passion for politics without attracting undue attention or conflict of interest.
"I didn't want to miss the two, because in cooperate everybody knew me as Micheal so Micheal and Kofi Baafi, two different names."
The MP after serving at the Free Zones Board later served as Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry and now represents New Juaben South in Parliament.
