Sunyani Senior High School has booked a comfortable slot in the one-eighth stage of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after securing a commanding 56 points in their preliminary contest held at Auditorium 900 on the University of Cape Coast campus.
The contest also featured debutants Akro Senior High Technical School (SHTS) and Tsito SHTS, who put up stellar performances but could not match Sunyani SHS’s dominance.

Despite being newcomers, Akro SHTS made a strong statement with 40 points, marking a memorable first-ever national appearance. Their score places them in strong contention to qualify as one of the best five runners-up from the preliminary stage. Tsito SHTS, however, finished third with 22.
In the Problem of the Day segment, Sunyani SHS stood tall, securing 7 out of 10 marks, while Akro SHTS and Tsito SHTS managed 3 and 2 marks, respectively.
Sunyani SHS’s qualification marks another steady step forward for the Bono Region powerhouse, which continues to cement its place among the country’s most consistent NSMQ performers.

In the 2024 edition, Sunyani SHS were crowned Bono-Ahafo Zonal Champions for the first time after defeating St. James Seminary SHS and Kintampo SHS.
However, their national campaign ended at the one-eighth stage, where they were eliminated by Achimota School, who went on to reach the quarter-finals. Sunyani scored 32 points in that contest, finishing behind Achimota’s 46 points and ahead of Accra Girls’ SHS.
