Former First Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has paid glowing tribute to the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, hailing her as a trailblazer, visionary, and tireless advocate for women’s rights.
In a post shared on Facebook, Mrs Akufo-Addo reflected on the immense impact of Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings’ lifelong commitment to empowering women across Ghana and beyond.
“We pay heartfelt tribute to Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings a trailblazer, visionary, and tireless advocate for women’s rights,” Mrs Akufo-Addo wrote.
“As Ghana’s former First Lady, she boldly took steps to empower women through education, leadership, and opportunity. Her work with the 31st December Women’s Movement gave countless women a voice and a path to productive livelihoods.”
Mrs Akufo-Addo also noted that Nana Konadu had been a regular participant in her annual International Women’s Day programmes, where she lent her voice and influence to the cause of gender equity and inclusion.
“She strongly believed that gender should not be a barrier to one’s contribution to national development,” she added.
“Nana Konadu’s courage, strength, and devotion to equality continue to inspire generations to dream boldly and lead fearlessly. Though she has departed, her legacy of empowerment and service will forever live on in the hearts of those she uplifted.”

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady and one of Africa’s most prominent advocates for women’s rights.
Through her pioneering work with the 31st December Women’s Movement, she spearheaded initiatives to improve women’s access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
She passed away in the early hours of Thursday, 23 October, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra. She was born on November 17, 1948 in Cape Coast, Central Region.
