Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin says he is awaiting the courage of those who have accused him of extortion to formally report the matter to the appropriate investigative authorities.

Speaking during Parliament’s emergency recall sitting, Mr Afenyo-Markin said he is prepared to submit himself to any investigation if the allegations are formally lodged with the Police, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), or any other competent investigative agency.

“I also await with bated breath that the man or the men who made the allegation will have the courage to report the matter to the police or the OSP or any investigating agency in this country,” he said on Monday, August 24, 2026.

He added, “I expect that if they muster the courage to report that I have extorted from them and I am invited, I shall submit myself to every investigation so that eventually my name is cleared.”

Mr Afenyo-Markin said he has already taken legal steps in response to the allegations, describing his decision to pursue the matter through the courts as taking the “high moral ground.”

He disclosed that writs had been filed in two separate cases involving individuals and media organisations over the allegations.

One of the suits, numbered GT 1029/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Samuel Adu Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited and was filed at the Accra High Court.

The second, numbered GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Eric Adjei and Peace FM and was filed at the Achimota Circuit Court.

The Minority Leader said he has confidence that the courts will ultimately determine the merits of the matters.

He also cautioned against crossing what he described as the limits of political discourse, insisting that allegations of this nature should be addressed through lawful processes.

“There is a limit to political discourse. There are lines that must not be crossed, and these red lines, once crossed, they must be dealt with,” he said.

Mr Afenyo-Markin further defended his record in public office, saying he has served as Minority Leader with integrity and a clear conscience.

“I can modestly and humbly say that I have served in this position with integrity,” he stated.

He maintained that he entered the position with a commitment to hard work and determination and has remained faithful to the responsibilities entrusted to him.

The Minority Leader’s comments come amid calls for investigations into allegations of extortion made against him, with proponents of a probe arguing that the appropriate state institutions should establish the facts surrounding the claims.
