The Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has lauded the Gomoa Easter Carnival initiative, describing it as a commendable move to boost tourism and local economic activity.
Organised by the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central Constituency, Kwame Asare Obeng popularly known as A Plus, the event seeks to bring a defining tourism, arts and culture experience to the doorstep of the Gomoa people this Easter.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin intimated that the event will go a long way to promote local businesses in the area.
Referencing the Kwahu Easter initiative spearheaded by the late Ferdinand Ayim and its concomitant benefits, he said this is a move worth commending.
“Recently, we’ve also seen the industry of the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, and he is really protecting the Gomoa enclave. I have heard about the Gomoa Carnival. This morning he brought the Paramount Chief of the Gomoa Ejumako Traditional Area and they were engaging MPs trying their to attract all of us to the Gomoa enclave. This is what he seeks to do to open up the economy of that area. I think it is very commendable,” he noted.
He further stated that Kwame Asare Obeng’s Gomoa project should be an inspiration to other Members of Parliament.
“I think that it is an advantage for us to tell the stories of our areas. If we tell the story well, and we are able to attract tourism, [it will help greatly],” he said.
He emphasised that while it is important to focus on visitors coming into Ghana for tourism, it is also necessary to consider domestic tourism, which is why he supports Kwame Asare Obeng’s bid to organise the Gomoa Easter Carnival.
Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, is not only a politician but also a creative industry player and social commentator, known for using entertainment-driven initiatives to promote development in his constituency.
The Gomoa Easter Carnival is a four-day festival scheduled from April 2 to April 5, 2026, across various communities in the Gomoa Central Constituency. It will feature musical performances from top Ghanaian artistes such as Kwabena Kwabena, Ofori Amponsah, Kofi Kinaata, Kuami Eugene, Samini, Shatta Wale, as well as emerging talents.
Activities lined up include a bonfire night, art exhibitions, food bazaars, masquerades and a grand durbar of chiefs, alongside street performances and cultural displays aimed at showcasing the heritage of the Gomoa people and stimulating local businesses.
The event is an initiative of Kwame Asare Obeng and is being organised in partnership with the Multimedia Group Limited as part of efforts to position Gomoa as a key tourism and cultural destination in Ghana.
It is sponsored by HotWav.
