Famous US rapper Nicki Minaj has urged fans to be more supportive and patient with Nigerian artistes.
Some Nigerian artistes have been under intense criticism this week, with fans accusing Burna Boy of being arrogant and ungrateful after he “jokingly” stated that he wants “only rich fans.”
Yemi Alade also came under fire after she protested against suggestions of an American intervention in the escalating insecurity in Nigeria.
Other celebrities were also chastised for being “insensitive” to the current state of the nation following the deadly terrorist attack on a church in Kwara and kidnap of school girls in Kebbi state, after they shared posts unrelated to the incidents on social media.
Reacting to the bandwagon of criticisms against Nigerian artistes, Nicki Minaj pleaded with fans to utilise wisdom and compassion in their criticisms.
She argued that critics would see things differently if they access artists from a place of comprehension rather than judgement.
On her X handle, she wrote, “My darlings, let’s utilize wisdom & compassion as it relates to our Nigerian artists. There are very logical reasons for most things when we look not to judge, but to comprehend.
“That goes for every country & their artists. Let’s lift them up & continue to use wisdom.”
Nicki Minaj recently received commendations from Nigerians after she spoke against jihadist violence against Christians in the country at a United Nations event in New York on Tuesday.
In her speech, Minaj called for urgent action against terrorists, emphasising that there should be freedom of worship.
