The Afro Arab Group, working in partnership with Chinese investors, has unveiled an ambitious clean-energy initiative to deploy 1,000 electric vehicles (EVs) across the country under a work-and-pay scheme.

The programme is positioned as a strategic intervention to advance youth employment while accelerating the nation’s transition towards low-carbon mobility, the partners noted on Monday, November 24, during a brief meeting on the programme.

Under the initiative, young Ghanaians will be supported to operate environmentally friendly vehicles, enabling them to generate income whilst contributing to a cleaner, more resilient transport system.

The project underscores the growing role of electric mobility in Ghana’s climate response and seeks to promote widespread adoption of green technologies.

Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu, Youth Ambassador for Peace and Development and Chairman of the Afro Arab Group, is championing the effort as part of his wider advocacy for green finance, sustainable energy, and climate-aligned economic empowerment.

His leadership, the Group noted, reflects a sustained commitment to creating opportunities for the youth within a greener economic framework.

According to the Afro Arab Group, the deployment of the EV fleet will support the government’s 24-hour economy strategy, cut emissions within the transport sector, and reduce the country’s dependence on fossil fuels.

The initiative also aligns with Ghana’s renewable energy targets, reinforcing national ambitions to integrate clean-energy solutions into mainstream economic activity.

According to Alhaji Amadu, the partnership stands out as one of the largest private-sector-driven EV programmes in the country, signalling the transformative potential of collaboration between local enterprise and international capital.
