The Ghana Police Service says it is working through diplomatic channels to secure the cooperation of an American woman who posted a viral video alleging she was kidnapped and robbed by persons she claimed were police officers.
The police made this known in a press release on Monday, December 9, 2025, detailing challenges in investigating the serious claims made by Arianna Naomi Mackey.
According to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the preliminary investigation confirmed that Mackey, who made the video at an Accra hotel, had already checked out and left Ghana on December 5, the same day she departed the country via Kotoka International Airport.

"Police subsequently contacted the alleged victim to assist the investigation," the release stated.
"She indicated to the Police that she was out of the country and she could not get the names of the alleged officers nor the number plate of the vehicle they were using."
The police say their efforts have been frustrated as the alleged victim has since deleted the video, declined to respond to follow-up messages, and later blocked investigators on WhatsApp. She also reportedly refused to provide the contact details of a Ghanaian friend who was with her during the incident, stating the friend did not wish to be involved.
"The Ghana Police Service treats such allegations very seriously and remains committed to uncovering the facts in this case," the release emphasised, signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, the CID Public Relations Officer.
Allegations of misconduct by persons in police uniform, particularly at checkpoints, have been a recurring public concern in Ghana.
The police say their investigation is ongoing as they pursue cooperation through official channels.
