The flagship current affairs programme, Newsfile, returns on Saturday, August 8, 2026, with a four-hour edition focusing on some of the major political, governance and economic issues dominating public discourse.

Hosted by Samson Lardy Anyenini, the programme will air from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on JoyNews, Joy FM and Luv FM.

The first major discussion, “Democracy under siege: NPP politics?”, will examine concerns over Ghana’s democratic space, political accountability and the treatment of opposition figures by state institutions.

The programme will also examine growing concerns about corruption and bribery under the theme “Bribery galore: Police top chart?”

The discussion follows recent public concerns about bribery within state institutions and perceptions that informal payments have become increasingly entrenched in Ghanaian society.

The panel is expected to examine the causes of bribery, institutional accountability and whether existing anti-corruption measures are having the desired impact.

A year after the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, Newsfile will revisit the tragedy under the theme “Helicopter tragedy: Lessons or lip service?”

The discussion will assess the lessons learnt from the disaster and whether adequate reforms have been implemented to strengthen aviation safety, emergency response and institutional preparedness.

The final major topic, “ECG & IMF: Energy sector bleeding?”, will focus on the persistent financial challenges confronting the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), including distribution losses, revenue collection, outstanding obligations to power producers and the broader reforms being pursued under Ghana’s IMF programme.

The panel will consider whether current interventions are sufficient to restore financial sustainability to the energy sector or whether deeper structural reforms are required.

The programme's panel includes Dr Kwabena Nyarko Otoo, Deputy Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress; Professor Godfred A. Bokpin, Professor of Finance and Economist at the University of Ghana; Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign; Professor Sharif Mahmud Khalid, Associate Professor of Accounting and Finance and Economic Adviser to the Vice-President; and Kofi Bentil, Lawyer & Senior Vice-President, IMANI-Africa.
