Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has promoted 25 police personnel for their roles in a series of operations that led to the arrest of robbery suspects and the interception of suspected cocaine at the Tema Harbour.

According to a post shared on Facebook by the Service on Monday, August 10, the personnel, drawn from the Bono East, Tema and Western Central Police Regions, were recognised for their involvement in three separate operations, including the arrest of six suspects in connection with a robbery involving GH¢300,000, the apprehension of four suspected members of a robbery syndicate and the seizure of 866 parcels of suspected cocaine.

The promotions, according to the IGP, were based on performance and contribution of the personnel to the investigations and operations.

One of the operations for which the personnel were recognised was a robbery on July 19 along the Portor to Kawempe stretch off the Kintampo-Buipe Highway.

Six suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery, during which GH¢300,000 was reportedly stolen from a victim.

The operation formed part of the police response to robbery-related incidents along the highway and resulted in the arrest of the suspects believed to have been involved in the incident.

The personnel involved in the operation were subsequently considered for promotion based on their contribution to the arrests.

Another group of personnel was recognised for their role in the arrest of four suspected members of a robbery syndicate linked to a violent robbery at Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area.

The third operation involved the interception of 866 parcels of suspected cocaine at the Tema Harbour. It said the seizure represents one of the major drug interceptions cited by the police administration.

Personnel involved in the operation were recognised alongside officers who participated in the robbery investigations in Bono East and the Western Central Police Region.

The circumstances surrounding the shipment, including its intended destination and the identities of persons linked to it, were not detailed in the announcement.

Among those promoted are Chief Inspectors Bede Nwinbomeh and Joe Tetteh, who have also been granted automatic entry to the Police Academy.

Other promoted personnel include General Sergeants Elijah Ndaga Yinimi and Kaifan Sulemanna, as well as General Corporals Owusu Ansah Evans and Tansang Jonathan.

General Lance Corporals Osei Christopher Bonny, Kyei Francis, Ofori Francis, Anim Dominic and Asante Isaac were also promoted.

General Constables Adam Bakari Alhassan and Bakai Mark are among those elevated to their next ranks.

The detective personnel promoted are Detective Chief Inspector Frank Dzah; Detective Inspectors Edem Ametowoga, Abroso and Vincent Dankwah; and Detective Sergeants Salifu Yakubu and Samuel Mordzifa.

The police administration said six other personnel were also promoted to their next ranks in recognition of their contribution to the fight against crime.

Chief Inspectors Nwinbomeh and Tetteh's automatic entry to the Police Academy represents an additional recognition of their service.

The IGP and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) congratulated the promoted personnel and urged them to maintain the standards that led to their elevation.

The police administration also indicated that it would continue to recognise personnel whose work contributes to crime prevention, investigations and public safety.
