Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, says prevailing voter attitudes in the Kpandai Constituency appear to tilt in favour of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the December 30 parliamentary rerun, although the contest remains competitive.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Saturday, December 13, Mr Dankwah explained that findings from the organisation’s most recent opinion poll indicate strong approval for President John Dramani Mahama’s performance, a factor he believes could work to the advantage of the NDC’s candidate, Nsala Wakpal.
According to him, a significant majority of voters in the constituency believe the country is moving in the right direction under the current administration.
“About 66 per cent of respondents say the country is headed in the right direction, while 26 per cent think it is going in the wrong direction. Eight per cent expressed no opinion,” he noted.
He added that President Mahama’s approval ratings in the constituency are similarly strong.
“When we assessed the President’s performance, 64 per cent approved, compared to 24 per cent who disapproved, while nine per cent had no opinion,” Mr Dankwah stated.
Touching on economic perceptions, he said more than half of respondents reported an improvement in their personal economic conditions. “About 54 per cent said their situation has improved, 34 per cent said it has remained the same, and 11 per cent said it has worsened,” he explained.
Mr Dankwah concluded that these indicators collectively suggest a favourable environment for the NDC ahead of the rerun, even as the New Patriotic Party’s candidate, Matthew Nyindam, remains a strong contender.
“Broadly, this kind of sentiment is what could potentially carry the NDC candidate across the finish line,” he said.
