The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, says the institution is making tremendous progress and delivering efficiently on its mandate.
Mr Gyamfi said GoldBod had recorded significant achievements since taking over responsibility for key aspects of Ghana’s gold trade, including the formalisation of the domestic gold market and efforts to ensure that the country derives greater value from its gold resources.
Speaking on JoyNews on Monday, August 10, 2026, Mr Gyamfi said the Board’s performance should be assessed against the mandate entrusted to it and the outcomes it has delivered.
He said GoldBod was working to strengthen oversight of the gold-trading sector while ensuring that more value from Ghana’s gold remained within the domestic economy.
“GoldBod was established to perform a certain task, and that task is being delivered efficiently for the benefit of Ghanaians,” he said.
He pointed to the Board’s expanding role in the formalisation of gold trading, its licensing and monitoring of market participants, and efforts to improve traceability within the sector as some of the measures supporting its mandate.
He said GoldBod was also working to improve the country’s position in the international gold market and ensure that the sector contributes more meaningfully to Ghana’s foreign exchange and economic stability.
Mr Gyamfi maintained that the progress recorded by GoldBod demonstrated the value of creating an institution dedicated to managing the country’s gold resources and strengthening the domestic gold industry.
He said the Board would continue to build on these gains and implement measures that would ultimately deliver greater benefits to Ghanaians.
