The Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry (GCCI) has awarded Engr. Professor Amevi Acakpovi, PhD, the Best Engineering & Technologist of the Year 2024/2025 Award, in recognition of his exceptional professional excellence, transformative leadership, and outstanding contributions to engineering, technology, and national capacity building.
Engr. Professor Acakpovi is a distinguished engineer, prolific researcher, and visionary academic leader whose work has significantly advanced electrical, electronic, and energy systems engineering in Ghana and beyond. His scholarly and professional contributions continue to influence innovation, policy, and industry practice.
As Acting Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University, Prof. Acakpovi has provided strategic, results-driven leadership that has strengthened engineering education, innovation ecosystems, and industry-focused skills development. Under his stewardship, the university has enhanced its relevance to industry needs, equipping graduates to compete effectively in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Internationally recognised for his pioneering research in renewable energy systems, hybrid microgrids, and electrotechnical standards, Prof. Acakpovi has authored over 140 peer-reviewed publications, earning him acclaim as one of Ghana’s leading engineering scientists. His research continues to shape sustainable energy solutions and inform best practices within the engineering profession.
Beyond academia, he has played influential roles in consulting, policy advisory, and leadership within national and continental standardisation bodies, including the IEC National Electrotechnical Committee of Ghana. Through these platforms, he has contributed to the development of standards and policies that promote safety, efficiency, and technological advancement.
A Senior Member of IEEE and Fellow of IET Ghana, Engr. Professor Acakpovi is widely admired for his integrity-driven leadership, commitment to technological progress, and unwavering dedication to mentoring the next generation of engineers. His guidance and example continue to shape Ghana’s engineering landscape and elevate the country’s global standing in science and technology.
