Collins Adomako-Mensah, Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Energy Committee and Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, has urged the government to treat escalating galamsey activities along the banks of the Bui Power Plant as a national emergency.
Speaking on JoyFm's Super Morning Show on Monday, January 19, in the wake of JoyNews’ Hotline documentary on illegal mining at the facility, Mr Adomako-Mensah stressed the urgent need for decisive action to safeguard the plant and the surrounding environment.

“I am saying that this must be treated as a national emergency and as quickly as possible. All the institutions involved in the fight against galamsey must move to Bui as a matter of urgency,” he said.
He also pledged that the parliamentary minority is ready to support measures aimed at clamping down on illegal operations. “On our part (Minority in Parliament), I can assure you that we will continue to engage,” he added.
The MP warned that the situation has deteriorated significantly, noting that it has “Gone beyond just water to drink. Now, it is affecting our energy security.”
