The Ghana Armed Forces Physical Training School has commenced a 17-week Advanced Physical Training Instructors Course at the Physical Training School, Whistler Barracks, Teshie. The course began on Wednesday, January 21.

A total of 47 participants, including three females, drawn from the Army, Air Force and Navy, have reported for the intensive training programme designed to enhance their professional competence as physical training instructors.

Delivering an address on behalf of the Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), the Assistant Commandant of the Tri-Service Training School (ASCOM TTS), Air Commodore Gervase Wienaa, urged participants to approach the course with discipline, commitment and a high sense of responsibility to derive maximum benefit from the training.

He noted that physical training and fitness must not be underestimated in the military, stressing that physical training instructors are mandated to train personnel and sustain a high level of excellence that positions them as pillars of physical training and fitness.

Air Commodore Wienaa explained that the course package has been structured to equip participants with the requisite skills and knowledge in line with contemporary military training standards.

He further reminded participants of the comprehensive nature of the course, which comprises both theoretical and practical components, and urged them to be physically and mentally prepared to perform above the standard expected of the average service person.

“The Physical Training profession, as you may be aware, is a disciplined one that calls for a lot of sacrifice and devotion. It therefore demands that you work extra hard to actualise your dream. In fact, you must bear in mind that there is no automatic pass on this course without personally working tirelessly to achieve it,” he added.
