Ghana U-20 forward Joseph Opoku marked a sensational return from a four-week injury layoff by scoring in Zulte Waregem's dramatic 4-3 defeat to Club Brugge in the Belgian Pro League on Saturday evening.
Opoku, 20, who had been sidelined since mid-December, came off the bench in the second half to grab a late consolation goal for the visitors at the Jan Breydel Stadium.
The match was an action-packed encounter. Club Brugge took an early lead, but Zulte Waregem fought back to hold a 2-1 advantage at halftime.
The home side responded strongly after the break, scoring three goals in the second half to take a commanding 4-2 lead.
Opoku's late strike ten minutes from time set up a nervy finish, but his goal was not enough to secure a point for his team.
This goal brings Opoku's total goal involvement for the season to six in the Belgian top-flight, comprising three goals and three assists.
Prior to his injury, he was a pivotal player for the team, consistently starting and influencing matches with his pace and creativity.
His return will be a major boost for Zulte Waregem as they look to improve their 10th position in the league standings.
