NPP presidential aspirant Kwabena Agyepong has warned that Ghana is currently gripped by individualism and materialism, a trajectory he says is unsustainable and threatens the nation’s development.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Monday, the former General Secretary said the focus of his campaign is the “soul of the NPP,” emphasising the need for a fundamental shift in party politics and governance.
“And I do this because the focus of my campaign, and I’ve said it to the delegates, that 31st January is about the soul of the NPP.
"I believe that the trajectory we are on, in fact, the country at large, is not a good one. It’s not sustainable. This country has now been gripped by individualism, materialism,” he said.
He added that no nation can develop with such a mindset and called for a “drastic departure” from past approaches.
Mr Agyepong stressed the need to recalibrate values in politics and governance, highlighting his personal philosophy of the “Triple S doctrine”—service, sacrifice, and selflessness—as a guide for leadership.
The aspirant’s warning comes amid ongoing debates over the NPP's future direction as the party prepares for its upcoming primaries on January 31.
Mr Agyepong stressed that his campaign emphasises a return to principled leadership and collective responsibility, seeking to challenge entrenched tendencies towards self-interest and material gain in public life.
