Private legal practitioner Victoria Bright has expressed shock at foreign nationals committing crimes in Ghana without facing consequences, following a viral video involving a Russian man and Ghanaian women.
This follows the circulation of a viral video showing a Russian man identified as Yaytseslav interacting with some Ghanaian women, who later accompanied him to his hotel, after which explicit footage was reportedly shared online.
Speaking on JoyNews AM show on February 16, Ms Bright expressed her disbelief at the behaviour of some foreign nationals in Ghana. She said, “I’m just always shocked as to how people think they can come here and just commit crimes and get away with it. Things that they wouldn’t do in their own countries.”
Ms Bright questioned whether such behaviour would be tolerated elsewhere. “Would he do that to a Russian woman in Russia? Or would he even go to the UK and do that to an English woman? Or the US and do that to an American lady, or Germany, or France, or anywhere?”
She then highlighted a broader pattern of lawlessness among foreign nationals, particularly in the galamsey sector.
“Why is it that time and time again, some foreign nationals feel, and this applies in the Galamsey field as well, that they can come to this country and not respect our laws and trample all over the dignity of Ghanaian nationals over and over again and feel it’s okay and just get away with it,” she said.
She emphasised the seriousness of the issue, adding, “It’s just another day. There’s something fundamentally wrong.”
The incident has triggered widespread public outrage and reignited debate about online exploitation, digital consent, and the enforcement of Ghana’s cybersecurity and criminal laws
