The youth of four communities in the Sene at the weekend staged a peaceful demonstration to register their disapproval of attempts to remove Madam Cynthia Titiriku Danso, the District Chief Executive for Sene from office. The aggrieved youth were from Bassa, Nkomi, Dwan and Kajeji. After going on a two-hour demonstration through the roads of Bassa, the demonstrators presented a petition to the Sene District Co-ordinating Director, J.B. Benning, for the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister. The petition signed by Jones Nsiah Abronye, spokesperson of the youth, said their action was aimed at countering claims by some groups in the district who recently called for the removal of Madam Danso for showing gross disrespect to traditional authorities. It would be recalled that some youth of Kwame Danso, the district capital of Sene, called for the removal of Madam Danso accusing her of not collaborating with traditional authorities. The petition said "So far as we are concerned Madam Danso always solicits the advice and support of our traditional rulers in the district, where possible, in the assembly's endeavours". The petition blamed some chiefs in the area for instigating the youth of Kwame Danso to embark on the demonstration. It said before Madam Danso came into office, the government had put an embargo on charcoal burning in the district and alleged that some chiefs had collected huge sums of money from charcoal burners and assured them that they would do everything possible to have the ban lifted. The petition alleged that the chiefs appealed to Madam Danso to lift the ban but she refused because it was beyond her jurisdiction and hence their attempt to have her removed from office. The petition assured Madam Danso that the youth in the district were in full support of her administration. The District Co-ordinating Director assured the youth that he would forward the petition to the appropriate quarters for necessary action.
