The premises of the Ga Mantse Palace at North Kaneshie in Accra is awash with splendid decorations and the vicinity itself filled to the brim as thousands throng the investiture of King Tackie Tawiah III as the new King of the Gas.Correspondents say all is about set for the arrival of the new King to the grounds for official ceremonies to begin. The Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson and Minister for Tourism and Diasporan Relations, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, are reported to have arrived at the grounds to join a long retinue of other chiefs from the Ga State all awaiting Nii Ga.An official programme brochure indicates President J.A. Kufuor is expected as the Special Guest of Honour, while security at the grounds is heavy. The investiture comes in the wake of factional royal claims to the throne, including a purported injunction served on the Ga Traditional Council to restrain the coronation, but followers and supporters of King Tackie Tawiah III, as well as the Council itself say they are unaware of any restraining orders.King Tackie Tawiah III, otherwise known as Dr. Joe Blankson, will succeed the late Bonnie Nii Amugi II.On Friday the Abola Piam Royal Family, a faction also claiming the stool and outdoored Henry Nii Ayitey Ayitey, a 57- year -old publisher as the rightful heir, filed the writ asking that the coronation be stopped. The injunction application also sought to bar any traditional office holder from associating with Saturday’s event. But King Tackie Tawiah III’s followers dismissed claims that the injunction had been granted. His solicitors also issued a statement on Saturday morning to confirm the application itself had been dismissed and saw no reason why the coronation should not proceed.PRESS RELEASEI PRINCE FREDERICK NII-ASHIE NEEQUAYE of Azinyo Chambers, Adabraka, Accra, make oath and say that:-1. That I am one of the Lawyers for Dr. Joe Blankson a.k.a King Tackie Tawiah III, whose coronation comes off today at the Ga Mantse's Palace.2. That I was in the Regional House of Chiefs, Dodowa with Mr. Willie Amarfio for Dr. Joe Blankson the Ga Mantse.3. That Mr. A.G. Boadu who represented Kpakpa Blofonyo said he had an urgent application for injunction.4. That the Regional "House of Chiefs presided over by Mr. Clayson asked him to move his application.5. That Mr. Boadu moved the ex-parte application for an injunction to restrain the Ga Traditional Council from performing the coronation of the Ga Mantse King Tackie Tawiah Ill.6. That the Regional House of Chiefs had this to say “We have looked at the application, we are of the opinion that the motion should have been brought on notice. The motion ex-¬parte for interim injunction is accordingly refused".7. That Kpakpa Blofonyo thereafter commenced hearing of his case and led evidence up to some point, the case was then adjourned to the 4th of May 2007, for further hearing.8. That this was what happened in Court. That it is therefore wrong for Ghana Broadcasting Corporation to be announcing that an injunction has been placed on the coronation.9. That I will be grateful if the news is corrected so that the confusion created in the minds of the people will be brought to rest.10. WHEREFORE, I swear to this affidavit. On Friday the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) was convened to discuss the security arrangements and related matters in respect of the event. In a statement issued by the office of the REGSEC and signed for the Regional Minister by the Chief Director, it "further to the briefing given by the members of the Regional Security Council, REGSEC hereby appeals to stakeholders to be circumspect in their utterances, behaviour and action. "Meanwhile, REGSEC has directed that the security agencies should be on high alert to ensure that security of the region is not breached."
