Diego Maradona's Argentina kept their World Cup hopes alive thanks to a last-gasp winner from Martin Palermo.
Palermo, who was starting his first international match in 10 YEARS, tapped in at the back post to give his side victory.
Relieved coach Maradona celebrated the goal by diving along the rain-soaked pitch on his chest.
Argentina were cruising when Gonzalo Higuain netted on his debut in the first half.
But a string of tactical changes and substitutions by Maradona handed Peru the advantage.
And Hernan Rengifo headed an equaliser in the 90th minute, which looked to have ended Argentina's bid to reach South Africa next year.
But Palermo struck deep into added time to fire the Argies into an automatic qualifying spot.
They play fifth-placed Uruguay on Wednesday, needing at least a draw to guarantee their place at the World Cup.
A defeat could mean they miss out altogether with Ecuador just two points behind them, outside the qualifying berths in sixth.
