Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has categorically rejected reports he is on his way to Kumasi Asante Kotoko and claims he has not had any form of discussion with the local giants about a transfer.
Kotoko claimed on the front page of the official mouthpiece that “The Black Tornado Is Coming” and suggested there was a high probability Appiah without a club at the moment will join them.
But the former Fernabahce, Juventus and Parma player says all that is news to him. “I have not thought about coming back to Ghana. I have not spoken to any club and have no idea where the stories are emerging from,” Appiah told kickoffGhana.com with a smile on his face.
Kotoko say they can offer Appiah a platform to play active football in the build up to next year’s World Cup especially with his place under increasing scrutiny these days.
But the player says he won’t fall for it and insists for the moment he is fine training on his own. He however takes issues with the manner in which the reports that he could be joining Kotoko has been mocked.
“The way the matter has been discussed on radio bothers on ignorance, almost as if it’s a crime to leave Europe to come and play here,” he slammed. “Adriano is back in Brazil, Ronaldo returned home after a while and Veron is playing in Argentina now.”
“But here people say all sorts of things and as a result our League is boring because players like Mohammed Gargo, Samuel Osei Kufuor, Augustine Arhinful who maybe can still play in the local League and pass on valuable experiences are put off by the things people say.”
