Newly crowned World Youth Champions, the Black Satellites of Ghana Monday morning embarked on a float of selected streets in Accra with the trophy they won at the Egypt tournament.
The float took them from the M-Plaza hotel where they were based since arriving in the country on Saturday night, through Nima and the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, the High Street and ended up at the Independence Square where a huge stage has been raised for a musical bash.
The Satellites beat Brazil 4-3 on penalties at the Cairo Stadium in Egypt after a nail biting finals that ended goalless after extra time to lift Africa’s first ever gold at that level of the competition.
The team also had its top marksman, Dominic Adiyiah voted the tournament’s best player and also topmost player.
On the float, skipper Dede Ayew, Adiyiah and his strike partner, Ransford Osei held the World Youth trophy as a long convoy of fans and security personnel trailed them through Accra.
They later presented the trophy to President Mills.
The players and their officials had early on addressed the media and answered questions on their exploits in the tournament.
The team will also embark on regional tours to show the trophies to the rest of the nation.
