Stanbic Bank were crowned winners of the maiden edition of the Joy FM invitational tournament played in Accra on Saturday.
They beat Nestle Ghana Ltd in a penalty shootout after 20 minutes of pulsating football ended barren.
Stanbic shattered the aspirations of Team Joy who had wanted to host and win the tourney.
The bankers ditched the host team in the semi-finals through a header from a corner kick deep into the second half which lasted only five minutes.
Alex Kwabena Mensah in a last gasp effort found skipper Ernest Koranteng whose shot forced a wonderful save from the Stanbic goalkeeper and that effectively ended the dream of Team Joy.
MultiTV had earlier been kicked out in the group stages of the competition.
In the women’s category, Unibank won the five aside penalty shootout to become the first champions of the invitational tourney.
Team Joy led by Tina Nahyi (HR manager) failed to move past the first stage after showing lots of promise.
General Manager of Joy FM, Enkyi Quarm, presented the brand new trophies to the winners of the tournament.
In all thirteen teams participated in the tournament which could be said to be one of the most successful competitions organized.
The competing companies included MTN, Promasidor, producers of Cowbell, Amponsah Effah Pharceuticals (Efpac) Phoenix Insurance, Multichoice, Charter House, and HFC bank.
