The Chief of Kokote in the Offinso district of Ashanti region, Nana Poku Asiedu II, has urged marriage counselling units in churches and other religious organizations to guide the youth in their relationship with their partners. Nana Asiedu, who is also the Principal of Offinso Teacher Training College, observed that most young people rush into marriages without adequate counselling and critical assessment of themselves and noted that such situations usually lead to ignorance and mistrust. He was commenting on the increase in the number of reported cases of divorces among married couples, especially the youth in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Kokote. He mentioned some major causes of the increased divorces as economic, mistrust, moral weakness, jealousy, unfaithfulness, disrespect and misunderstanding. He said those problems could be addressed if married couples were adequately counselled and imbued with love, trust, respect and moral faithfulness. Nana Asiedu advised leaders, Christians and other opinion leaders to lead lives worthy of emulation by the youth and also contribute meaningfully towards the crusade against indiscipline in the society. The chief expressed his concern about the spate of indiscipline and hooliganism among the youth of late, especially students and entreated parents and guardians to give proper training and moral values to their wards.
