SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah has written off Ghana’s chances of winning medals at the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio.
Kwabena Yeboah believes Ghana’s woeful attitude towards preparations makes us participant rather than true competitors for medals.
In his opinion, our treatment of sport in the country has been nothing short of appauling.
“We are a big joke because I don’t think we are serious as a sporting nation because we have paid a lot of lip service to sport this country but I do not think we are serious,” he told Adom FM Sports.
If we want to just pursue the Olympics spirit of just participating, that is fine but if it is the question of going out there to win medals then I think it a big joke.
“I do not think so and this is not to demoralize our sports men and women who have qualified for the Olympics games,” he added.
“I do not think we have prepared enough to win a single medal out there. To win a medal at the Olympics which is the pinnacle of sporting endeavor you need to prepare sometimes six years down the line.”
“We have a situation here where our athletics do not even prepare for two months and yet we still want medals.”
“So I can tell you straight away that we should forget about medals but if is a question of the few who have qualified to go out there and give meaning to the Olympics spirit of just participating that is fine but regarding medals you should forget it.”
The Olympics have been scheduled for August in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.
