The Western Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo has confirmed that funds for the completion of additional dormitories for some Senior High Schools in the region have been released to contractors. Mr. Aidoo who was speaking to Cyrus De-Graft Johnson on the Joy Midday News said these contractors were supposed to start work on the project with 40% of the cost of the entire project but due to the delays in the disbursement of funds some of these contractors have stopped work on site. Mr. Aidoo applauded some of the contractors who he said had done a good job when he recently inspected the projects. On Wednesday, some contractors working on the projects told Joy News they were unable to continue work since funds for the project had not been made available. They said the projects were supposed to end in September but their work had been slowed down as a result of the lack of funds. These contractors are working on projects in Juaboso, Sefwi-Wiawso, Sefwi-Bekwai, Bia and Asawenso Senior High Schools. But the regional minister has allayed the fears of contractors with the assurance that funds will be made available in two weeks. The minister however expressed dismay at the situation where some of these contractors chased after their monies instead of concentrating on projects while some of their counterparts were busy on site, stressing, “instead of them going to site and getting someone to chase the certificate, the contractor, the carpenters, everybody, leaves site and they will tell you we are chasing our certificate.” The Government in June this year initiated a project to increase the dormitories of some SHS in the country.
