ASP Courage Asem - Head of Public Affairs at the Ghana Prisons Service has denied reports by sections of the media that punitive actions have been taken against Prisons Officers who embarked on an illegal demonstration to demand better conditions of service.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, ASP Asem said after the Police Administration had conducted investigations on the matter, the Ghana Prisons Service council headed by its chairman also conducted another investigation and a report on both findings have been given to the Minister of Interior for advice.
ASP Asem who said he is not aware of any sanctions which have been imposed on the demonstrators, indicated that he is unable to give a definite number of people involved in the demonstrations because he has not seen a copy of the report. He said some officers are on record for looking-on and not participating in t demonstrations.
ASP Asem however denied that the transfer of some 5 senior prisons officers is linked to the demonstrations, and that the transfer was merely a routine practice in the Prisons Service's operations.
He could not tell when a decision will be taken by the Minister of Interior on the report submitted to him, but said that it is expected to be done in a reasonable space of time.
