Former Mayor of Kumasi Patricia Appiagyei has condemned the use of abusive language by male politicians against their female counterparts.
The MP for Asokwa Maxwell Kofi Jumah recently suggested that Madam Appiagyei got her job as first female MCE after granting sexual favors.
She has declined to comment on the matter currently being handled by the disciplinary committee of the New Patriotic Party.
Madam Appiagyei however told Joy News the use of abusive language against female politicians is worrying.
“We are highly discouraged when defamatory statements are made or out of some incident certain statements are made. …that is why many women are discouraged from being in politics.”
“What society do we live in that people just trade in insults left and right?, she asked.
Madam Appiagyei said the practice must be stopped because it does not speak well of Ghanaian politics.
“We need to show that Ghanaians are civil [in our politics]” she counseled.
