Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu has lashed out at the media for contributing to the defamation of female politicians.
She said the practice must stop because it discourages women from going into politics and accepting top positions.
Betty Mould Iddrisu was speaking at a forum organized by the Institute of Economic Affairs and the European Union to increase female representation in parliament.
“It is the most difficult thing to get up every morning and hear your name on the radio…in the most sexist, blatantly unethical language…especially if you are a married woman with children – whatever the children’s ages,” she stated.
The IEA and the EU are seeking to increase women’s representation in parliament from the current 19 to 60 in the 2012 elections.
